Armed Citizen: Kansas’ New Permitless Carry Law Helps Citizen Thwart Robbers

Armed. Safe.Joe Tapley was inside the Academy Sports and Outdoors store in Topeka, Kans. when three robbers started stealing firearms and cash from the behind the gun counter. As they made their way outside the store, Tapley confronted the thieves and ordered them to drop the guns. One of the criminals dropped two guns and then all three fled the scene.

Police captured the criminals a short time later and recovered all of the merchandise and money they had stolen. The thieves are facing robbery, burglary and assault charges.

Following the incident, Tapley explained to a local media outlet that he exercises his Right-to-Carry without a permit, following the recent enactment of permitless carry in Kansas. Tapley told a reporter, “Thats why Kansas made the law. So citizens can carry and protect themselves and others.” (WIBW, Topeka, Kans. 07/13/15)
