Huge Second Amendment March Slated for May in DC
EVENT PERMIT DENIED – SEE UPDATE BELOW
Organizers of a pro-rights march hope to meet their lofty goal of attracting up to 10 million supporters of the Second Amendment at the event tentatively scheduled for noon on Saturday May 25, 2013.
According to the event website, organizers are still working to secure sponsors and a venue. Once those issues are handled, the date, time and location will be finalized. Keep an eye on the GunLink Blog and Forums for updates as more information becomes available. The event also has a Facebook page located here.
10 Million Gun Owners March on Washington DC
Saturday, May 25 2013
Washington, D.C.
UPDATE:
The following was posted on the event website in early April:
After speaking with the Rolling Thunder Group and The National Park Service representative on April 5th 2013, The National Park Service will NOT issue us a separate permit to have our Second Amendment Rally at the Lincoln Memorial using Rolling Thunders stage in conjunction with the Rolling Thunder Freedom Ride even though the Rolling Thunder Organization was kind enough to allow us to use their stage pending a separate permit.
Plain and simple, The Obama Administration does not want us to be in Washington on May 25th to honor all of the brave veterans who died for the Bill Of Rights and is now violating our First Amendment Rights to assemble in a place of our choosing. The purpose of this event was to honor our Veterans on Memorial Day Weekend using the Lincoln Memorial as a back drop. I guess the Lincoln Memorial and the Reflecting Pool is only to be used for liberal causes these days.
The Rolling Thunder Freedom ride will still be taking place and gun owners could attend that event at the Lincoln Memorial if you so choose. The link for this event is below. It is a worthy cause so if you want to attend this event on May 26th please attend and support the Rolling Thunder Organization.
February 8 Rally to Spread Second Amendment Message Nationwide
We first heard about the nationwide Second Amendment rally through a flyer that someone gave us at SHOT Show 2013 and now word of the rally is spreading like wildfire with more than 13,000 Facebook users confirming their attendance.
Nationwide 2nd Amendment Rally
Friday, February 8, 2013 – 10AM
At YOUR capitol building
The peaceful protest is slated to take place at every state capitol across the country on Friday, the eighth of February at 10AM at each state’s respective capitol building, although we have heard buzz that some locations have had to reschedule for various reasons (e.g. Maryland moved to February 6).
Keep spreading the word so that all Second Amendment advocates have the opportunity to attend. We’ve started a thread for the event on the GunLink Forums for users to discuss the event, arrange transportation, share information, pictures and more.
POPVOX Makes it Easy to Tell Congress You Oppose Gun Control
You have to hand it to them – if the gun control crowd is anything, they’re consistent. Or maybe predictable is a better word. No matter which adjective you use for them, their unceasing efforts to trample Second Amendment rights are undeniable. They are a motivated and largely organized group and if we want to preserve our rights we must also be motivated and organized. We cannot sit idly by while a vocal minority peppers our representatives with calls to incrementally (or not-so-incrementally) degrade our rights.
There are a number of online tools, provided by organizations like GOA and NRA, which allow you to find out who your representatives are and contact them. There is a relatively new resource called POPVOX (from the latin vox populi – the voice of the people) that users can take advantage of to express their opinions to their legislators. While POPVOX has been around for a couple years, it has recently been gaining in popularity and is a perfect opportunity for supporters of the Second Amendment to voice their feelings on pending gun control measures. To find current gun control issues and weigh in on them using POPVOX, visit The Official GunLink POPVOX Thread To Oppose Gun Control Legislation on the GunLink Forums or visit speakup.GunLink.info.
Comments and opinions left via POPVOX are delivered to your Representative and/or Senators in Congress electronically (or by hand when Continue reading
Ring in the New Year with Some Gun Control
Despite the bleating from gun control proponents and their continued claims that neither Obama nor other democrats have plans to come after gun rights (despite this being part of their official platforms), it should come as no surprise that Obama, Feinstein and their anti-gun pals plan continued attacks on Second Amendment rights in the coming year.
Feinstein recently released the following statement: “On the first day of the new Congress, I intend to introduce a bill stopping the sale, transfer, importation and manufacturing of assault weapons as well as large ammunition magazines, strips and drums that hold more than 10 rounds,” continuing to say that she is currently drumming up support in the Senate and House.
Feinstein’s bill seeks to stop (nearly nonexistent) “assault weapon” crime by prohibiting sale, transfer, importation and manufacturing (stopping short of posession) of numerous firearms based on certain characteristics. More than 100 specificly named firearms are also targeted. This bill is only the latest iteration in efforts to revive the 1994 “Assault Weapons Ban” which sunset in 2004. The CDC found no evidence that the ban had any effect on crime and a National Research Council panel echoed that sentiment, stating that “due to the fact that the relative rarity with which the banned guns were used in crime before the ban … the maximum potential effect of the ban on gun violence outcomes would be very small.”
Feinstein’s bill also targets Continue reading
Illinois Second Amendment Victory is a Good Start
IL General Assembly has 180 days to craft new concealed carry legislation
Given the anti-gun image that Illinois has, thanks in large part to Chicago/Cook County, people may not have had very high hopes when the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) filed suit in May 2011, suing the state over the prohibition of carrying firearms for self defense. Gun rights proponents and US Constitution/Bill of Rights fans got good news this week when the decision in Moore et al v. Madigan et al was handed down.
The lawsuit alleged that the statutes which ban carrying handguns for self defense are “inconsistent with the Second Amendment.” SAF executive VP Alan Gottleib pointed out that “Illinois is currently the only state in the country that imposes a complete prohibition on the carrying of firearms for personal protection by its citizens.” SAF attorney David Jensen said that it was “incredible that this situation has persisted even in light of the Supreme Court’s rulings in Heller and McDonald”
The 7th US Court of Appeals this week issued a ruling which stated Continue reading
BATFE to Accept Comments on Armor Piercing Ammo Through End of Year
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has posted a notification on their website soliciting comments regarding requests to exempt certain projectiles from regulation as “armor piercing ammunition.”
The posting states that ATF is “seeking public comments on specific projectiles or projectile cores which may be used in a handgun and which are constructed entirely from one or a combination of tungsten, alloys, steel, iron, brass, bronze, beryllium, copper, or depleted uranium, and whether these projectiles or projectile cores pose a threat to public safety and law enforcement, or are, ‘primarily intended to be used for sporting purposes” and therefore may be exempted from classification as “armor piercing ammunition.’” Continue reading
