BATFE Tests of 3D Printed Firearms

BATFE LogoThere has been buzz among the firearms community for some time now regarding 3D printing, rapid prototyping technology and how it can be used to produce firearms.  Much of the fervor was stemmed by the Wiki-Weapon project.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) led a multi-agency working group testing the use of 3-D printing technology in the making of firearms. The test, focusing on the Liberator design, resulted in several videos which were posted to the ATFHQ YouTube Channel.

The Bureau tested the Liberator produced with ABS material with what appears to be successful results: Continue reading

“Where To Shoot” App Puts Shooting Opportunities in the Palm of Your Hand

WTS-iOS-AndroidWhereToShoot.Org bills itself as “North America’s most comprehensive directory of shooting ranges,” allowing site visitors to find shooting ranges near their location whether they’re at home or traveling.  The free WhereToShoot app for smartphones and tablets (available for both Android and iOS) makes finding a place to shoot even more convenient.

The app is as simple to use as you might imagine.  Tell it where you want to shoot and it gives you a list of shooting ranges within your specified distance.  Click on a range and it gives you all of the pertinent details including the range address, telephone number, website address, range type, facility details and more.  If you’re more of a visual person and you prefer to see your closest ranges shown on a map rather than in a list, there’s an option for that as well.

Not sure where you are?  Not a problem.  Enough smartphone and tablet apps these days make use of the device’s location services that it no longer seems like the magical feature that it once might have but it really works great in the Where To Shoot app.  The app can figure out where you are and base the shooting range search results on that.  The app also seamlessly integrates with the Continue reading

Metcalf Out at Guns & Ammo After Column Calling For Regulation of Second Amendment

Guns & Ammo editor Jim Bequette yesterday released a statement announcing the termination of Dick Metcalf’s following his recent Backstop column titled “Let’s Talk Limits.”  In the column, Metcalf compared the right to keep and bear firearms to the privilege of driving a car on public highways, saying that all constitutional rights, including the second amendment, must be regulated.  This move places Metcalf among the ranks of Jim Zumbo, Recoil magazine staff, Reed Exhibitions and the like.

Unlike backpedaling that has been seen in some of the previous instances of public gun guys selling out the Second Amendment, Guns & Ammo responded quickly with the statement below: Continue reading

Businesses Honor Our Heroes for Veterans Day 2013

honoringvets

Our heroes in uniform deserve our gratitude 365 days a year, but there is one day each year that they get extra special attention.  Veterans Day 2013 is this Monday, November 11 and each year many businesses honor veterans and service members by offering veterans discounted or free goods and services during Veterans Day weekend.  Below is a partial list of some of the tokens of gratitude available for service members this Veterans Day.

Keep in mind that not all franchise locations participate in their national chain’s Veterans Day programs, so be sure to contact your local establishment to make sure that the offer is good there.  Also keep in mind that, in most cases,  proof of military service may be required.  This might include military ID, DD-214, VA card, VFW/DAV/AmVets identification, etc.

Have a great Veterans day and, as always a big THANK YOU to all of our men and women in uniform, past and present!  So, without further ado, here’s the list: Continue reading

Is This Thing On? We’re in Good Company in the Fight for Gun Rights.

Shall Not Be Infringed Shirt

Our Team’s Still in the Fight

Earlier this week, while watching a well known radio host do his program, I drew some parallels between his monologue about his fight to further his political ideology and the way it can sometimes feel when it comes to advancing the Second Amendment cause.

The host claimed naïveté in believing that he was a part of a larger force working to support his political views and battle the policies and practices which he believes to be harmful.  He recalled a number of anecdotes in which individuals and organizations which he had previously believed to be agents of political change turned out to be nothing more than mouthpieces, sitting on the sideline, riding the pine while occasionally cheering on another member of their team.

He spoke of an interview with an author who, in painstaking detail and with myriad examples, had demonstrated the opposition’s efforts and the disastrous results of Continue reading
