Armed Citizen: Right-to-Carry Permit Holder Fells Attacker in Barbershop

Armed.  Safe.An altercation erupted inside Falah Barbershop Inc. in West Philadelphia, Pa., during which one man drew a gun and fired at another person. A Right-to-Carry permit holder was inside the shop at the time of the shooting and responded by drawing a gun and shooting and killing the armed attacker.

Following the incident, Philadelphia Police Captain Frank Llewellyn said of the armed citizen, “He responded and I guess he saved a lot of people in there.” Llewellyn also noted, “There were numerous people in there… so it could have been a lot worse.” (CBS Philly, Philadelphia, Pa. 03/22/15)

Armed Citizen: Mother Defends Herself and Daughter From Crazed Intruder

Armed.  Safe.A mother was at home with her young child in Newport News, Va. when a stranger behaving erratically began trying to force his way into the home through a door. Concerned for herself and her daughter’s safety, the mother retrieved a gun and called police. The man eventually broke into the home through a window. The mother responded to the intrusion by shooting the home invader twice. When police arrived the criminal was taken to a local hospital; he is expected to recover.

In explaining the incident to a local media outlet, the mother told a reporter, “All I knew is I wanted to stop him from hurting me or hurting my daughter.” The mother added, “It doesn’t make it too much easier to know that I can totally handle my worse fear… But along the same lines, it makes me feel more confident I was able to do what I needed to do.” (WTKR, Hampton Roads, Va. 03/12/15)

Armed Citizen: Homeowner Fights Off Trio of Home Invaders

Armed.  Safe.A man was at home in Freestone County, Texas, when a group of three home invaders, at least one of whom was armed, forced their way inside the residence through a back door. During the incident, the homeowner suffered a gunshot wound, but at some point was able to retrieve a gun and fire at the criminals; striking one and causing all to flee.

Police found the body of the intruder who was struck by the homeowner’s gunfire just outside the home. The two surviving intruders were captured by police a short time later. The homeowner was taken to a local hospital where he was listed as in critical condition. (KWTX, Waco, Texas, 03/09/15, KXXV, Waco, Texas 03/09/15)

Armed Citizen: Retired U.S. Customs Agents Fights off Home Intruder

Armed.  Safe.

Retired U.S. Customs agent Thomas Schenk returned to his home in Amboy, Wash. to find it ransacked. Schenk, a Right-to-Carry permit holder, drew a gun, searched the house, and found a man in his living room. The intruder spotted the Schenk, fled to a bedroom and pointed a gun at the former agent. A shootout ensued that eventually moved outside the home and prompted the criminal to flee. Police captured the thief several days later.

Following the incident, Schenk told a local media outlet, “I spent 25 years as a federal agent and had occasionally drawn my weapon under various circumstances, but never had to fire it… To have to fire in my own home, it was just hard to fathom.” Schenk added, “We all get lulled into a false sense of security and if nothing happens, that’s great… But in the event something does occur, nowadays you can’t trust that everything is going to be all right. I’m thankful I was able to refer to my training and keep a clear head.” (The Oregonian, Portland, Ore. 01/05/15)

Armed Citizen: Homeowner Holds Criminal at Gunpoint Until Police Arrive

Armed.  Safe.

Jeff Preach was at home in Castaic, Calif. when a man knocked at his front door. Preach answered the door and had a brief conversation with the man before the stranger punched him in the face, went inside the house, and attempted to rob him. Preach tackled the intruder with the help of his friend Larry Bensell. Once Bensell had the criminal under control, Preach went to another part of the home and retrieved a shotgun. Preach proceeded to hold the thief at gunpoint until police could arrive. (KABC, Los Angeles, Calif. 01/05/15)

Armed Citizen: Cleveland Store Owner Fights off Armed Robber

Armed.  Safe.

Fares Naser, owner of Steve’s Deli in Cleveland, Ohio, was working at his store when a hooded man came inside, drew a gun, and demanded cash. Upon seeing the criminal’s gun, Naser dropped behind the counter. This prompted the thief to begin firing at Naser. The store owner responded by retrieving a pistol and firing it at his attacker, causing the criminal to flee. Naser was not harmed during the incident. (WEWS, Cleveland, Ohio 01/10/15)
