2014 NRA National Matches Scheduled for July 6 Through Mid-August

“World Series of Shooting” Returns to Camp Perry

NRA National ChampionshipsThe National Rifle & Pistol Championships, AKA The National Matches, is a shooting tradition that has been around since 1903 and has been hosted at Camp Perry, Ohio, for 107 of those 111 years.  That tradition continues this summer as the 2014 National matches – conducted jointly by the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), NRA and Ohio National Guard – return starting July 6.

During the event, the nation’s top civilian and military marksmen will face off in various categories of competition.  The National Matches include the CMP National Trophy Rifle and Pistol Matches, the Pistol and Rifle Small Arms Firing Schools, CMP Games rifle events and the NRA National Pistol, Smallbore Rifle and Highpower Rifle Championships.

Things kick off with the Junior Small Bore Rifle Camp, continuing with various banquets, pistol and rifle championship matches and awards ceremonies, all wrapping up in the second week of August.  The full calendar is available online and additional information is available on the NRA Competitive Shooting website.

Online registration for the National Matches is available here.  If you won’t be shooting but you would still like to get involved with the 2014 National Matches, the application to volunteer is available here.

3GN Rumble on the Range 2014

3 Gun Finish by PrimerAs in past years, we took a break from our exhausting coverage of SHOT Show to head out to the 3-Gun Nation championship – known as the “Rumble on the Range” – at Clark County Shooting Complex.  And, as in past years, we weren’t disappointed by the action we found there.

We arrived just in time to catch Lena Miculek-Afentul take the ladies’ side of the championship and, with it, the $25,000 prize.  Amid the buzzing, camera laden UAVs circling the range, gun smoke and windblown desert sand, there was time to grab a bite to eat and a drink (provided by the event sponsors, including Cheaper Than Dirt) before crowding the range to watch the men’s championship. SHOT Show Action Not Confined to Convention Hall

The 2013 NSSF Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show is in full swing, but the action isn’t just on the show floor.

On Monday, January 15 – the day before the official start of SHOT Show, registered media attendees had the opportunity to travel to Boulder City for SHOT Show® Media Day at the Range™ at Boulder Pistol & Rifle Range.  While there, we had the opportunity to get hands-on time with some of the latest and greatest gear on the market – and some that isn’t even on the market yet.

Some of the highlights from this event included new offerings from SilencerCo, Glock, FN, and others.  There was also plenty of cutting edge optics, long range rifles and AR platform innovations on display as well as the latest hunting and target shooting gear.  With everything going on at the range (as well as on the show floor), there is a lot to write about.  We’ll be putting up more details of all this amazing gear right here on the GunLink blog in the coming days but, in the mean time, the GunLink Forums are an excellent place to find more information and share your thoughts.

While Media Day at the Range was a great opportunity to get some trigger time with the newest firearms advancements, we didn’t have a chance to really put the weapons through their paces.  We’ll leave that to the pros at the 3-Gun Nation championship on Wednesday night.  The “Rumble on the Range” will showcase 3-Gun pros vying for $50,000 at Clark County Shooting Range while other 3GN top shooters will be gunning for $5,000.  The 3GN competitors won’t be the only ones with a chance at great prizes; one lucky match attendee will be walking away with an FNH USA 3-Gun prize package worth over $5,000.  A live performance by Mark Wills and a side-shoot sponsored by the American Silencer Association cap off the event, which lasts from 6PM to 9PM.

Stay tuned to GunLink for updates from the show floor and from the range as this 35th edition of SHOT Show rolls on.
