A CMT reality show star is in some hot water.  Grandpa Winfred L “Biff” Sumner of Guntucky fame was arrested late Tuesday night at his Louisville, KY, motel after allegedly pointing a firearm at police just before 10PM on March 4, 2014. An LMPD officer was conducting an investigation at Biff’s Motel when Sumner, who had his hand in a jacket pocket, became agitated. The officer demanded that Sumner, 77, keep his hands visible, at which time Sumner removed a handgun from his pocket.

According to the report, Sumner – who also owns a local gun store – refused to lower his firearm until a second officer arrived and demanded that he lower the gun. At that time, Sumner returned the firearm to his jacket pocket and surrendered to the officers, both of whom were in full uniform at the time of the incident.

Sumner, who police claim admitted to drinking earlier in the day, was arrested for wanton endangerment and alcohol intoxication in a public place. Sumner was being held on a $25,000 full cash bond.

Civil Disobedience: Tens of Thousands in CT ignoring Gun Registration Law

[T]he right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. – United States Bill of Rights, Ratified Dec 15, 1791

One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws. I would agree with St. Augustine that “an unjust law is no law at all” – Martin Luther King Jr, Letter from a Birmingham Jail, 1963

Second Amendment to the United States Constitution

A recent article by Hartford Connecticut’s Courant business writer Dan Haar is bringing attention to widespread disregard to the recently effected law that would require residents to register “military style” firearms.  In April 2013, CT legislators passed the law (introduced, ironically, on April Fools Day even though it isn’t just a bad joke) which established the December 31st, 2013 deadline for having such firearms registered.  The law, widely seen as a knee-jerk reaction to a series of murders by a deranged madman in Connecticut, also included multiple other restrictions on firearms and accessories.  More sad irony for what is nicknamed “The Constitution State.”

Many may remember the infamous picture of obedient Connecticut residents queued up in long lines to register their firearms.  Despite the long lines and the end-of-year deadline, Haar reports that state police had only received approximately 50,000 applications for registration – a number which includes over 2,000 incomplete (and, thus, invalid) applications.  This is a figure that is estimated to be as little as 15% of so-called “assault weapons” in Continue reading

Magpul Industries Announces Plans For Relocation

MagpulLogoAfter a nine month wait (and significant doubt from some critics), Magpul Industries is picking up its operations from gun-unfriendly Colorado and moving them to Wyoming and Texas.

Company Is Moving Operations to Wyoming and Texas

Magpul Industries announced today that it is relocating its operations to Wyoming and Texas.

The company is relocating manufacturing, distribution and shipping operations to Cheyenne, Wyoming. Magpul is leasing a 58,000 square foot manufacturing and distribution facility during the construction of a 100,000 square foot build-to-suit facility in the Cheyenne Business Parkway. The Wyoming relocation is being completed with support from Governor Matt Mead, the Wyoming Business Council and Cheyenne LEADS.

Magpul is moving its corporate headquarters to Texas. Three North Central Texas sites are under final consideration, and the transition to the Texas headquarters will begin as soon as the facility is selected. The Texas relocation is being accomplished with support from Governor Rick Perry and the Texas Economic Development Corporation.

“Magpul made the decision to relocate in March 2013 and has proceeded on an Continue reading

NFL to Daniel Defense: “No Ads for You!”

You’ve probably heard some of the hubbub about the NFL rejecting Daniel Defense‘s commercial for inclusion in the Superbowl ad rotation.  The ad was rejected based on the “no guns allowed” policy when it comes to commercials that they run.  This, despite the fact that there are no firearms shown or mentioned in the advertisement save for the one in the company logo (which they even offered to remove, to no avail).

If you haven’t seen the commercial, here it is in it’s nasty, offensive entirety:

Pretty awful stuff, right? Continue reading

Metcalf Out at Guns & Ammo After Column Calling For Regulation of Second Amendment

Guns & Ammo editor Jim Bequette yesterday released a statement announcing the termination of Dick Metcalf’s following his recent Backstop column titled “Let’s Talk Limits.”  In the column, Metcalf compared the right to keep and bear firearms to the privilege of driving a car on public highways, saying that all constitutional rights, including the second amendment, must be regulated.  This move places Metcalf among the ranks of Jim Zumbo, Recoil magazine staff, Reed Exhibitions and the like.

Unlike backpedaling that has been seen in some of the previous instances of public gun guys selling out the Second Amendment, Guns & Ammo responded quickly with the statement below: Continue reading

Businesses Honor Our Heroes for Veterans Day 2013

honoringvets

Our heroes in uniform deserve our gratitude 365 days a year, but there is one day each year that they get extra special attention.  Veterans Day 2013 is this Monday, November 11 and each year many businesses honor veterans and service members by offering veterans discounted or free goods and services during Veterans Day weekend.  Below is a partial list of some of the tokens of gratitude available for service members this Veterans Day.

Keep in mind that not all franchise locations participate in their national chain’s Veterans Day programs, so be sure to contact your local establishment to make sure that the offer is good there.  Also keep in mind that, in most cases,  proof of military service may be required.  This might include military ID, DD-214, VA card, VFW/DAV/AmVets identification, etc.

Have a great Veterans day and, as always a big THANK YOU to all of our men and women in uniform, past and present!  So, without further ado, here’s the list: Continue reading
