Optimizing the KelTec P-11
Perfecting the Compact Pistol for Carry, Defense and the Range
Kel-Tec pistols are wildly popular for concealed carry and personal/home defense. According to ATF reports, Kel-Tec has produced an average of around 110,000 pistols per year for the past five years year (130,000 in 2009 alone) placing them solidly among the top manufacturers. Their USA-made pistols are available in a variety of calibers, each coming with a lifetime manufacturer’s warranty. A Kel-Tec representative couldn’t give us exact numbers but said that many of their models are “pushing or over a million already.”
However, along with these large numbers there are also a number of common complaints about the pistols. Some of these gripes include Continue reading
The GunLink Holiday Gift Buying Guide
The holiday season is upon us and with it comes the tradition of gift giving. Black Friday is coming right up and, with ammo still scarce and firearm prices still high, shopping for the firearms enthusiast in your life might seem like a daunting task, but fear not. Whether it’s going under a tree, into a stocking, around a Festivus pole or elsewhere, GunLink is here to make it easy to find the right gift. While you’re at it, go ahead and pick up something for yourself. You deserve it. And if you are going gun shopping on Black Friday, don’t forget about the extended Black Friday NICS background check hours.
The Gift That Keeps On Giving
We’ll start off with the easy stuff. How about the gift of the Second Amendment? Gifting a membership to RKBA organizations or making a charitable donation is easy, affordable and beneficial to us all. In addition to helping defend 2A rights, membership in some organizations (e.g. NRA) includes extra benefits like magazines, firearms insurance and more. Memberships can generally be purchased online, so you don’t even have to get dressed to go shopping for them. Save $10 on NRA memberships here. The offer is good on new memberships as well as renewals, so you can get one for the whole family, even if they’re already members. There are plenty of other great organizations as well, such as GOA, JPFO (bonus points for ironic Christmas gifting), SAF, The Firearms Coalition and more, so you have plenty of choices.
Something to Hold On To
Looking for something more tangible? Maybe something… wearable? Something to make a Second Amendment statement? Check out some of the slick shirts from Infringed Apparel. A USMC veteran-owned company, Infringed Apparel offers a selection of great no-bones-about-it pro-gun gear. As their mission statement says, they’re “taking this fight directly to the liars who are attacking our US Constitution.” It might not be wearing your heart on your sleeve, but it’s wearing your love of the Constitution on your chest. You can also find more RKBA gear such as shirts, iPhone cases, mugs and more in the GunLink Store.
Firearms enthusiasts love getting new gear and Continue reading
“Where To Shoot” App Puts Shooting Opportunities in the Palm of Your Hand
WhereToShoot.Org bills itself as “North America’s most comprehensive directory of shooting ranges,” allowing site visitors to find shooting ranges near their location whether they’re at home or traveling. The free WhereToShoot app for smartphones and tablets (available for both Android and iOS) makes finding a place to shoot even more convenient.
The app is as simple to use as you might imagine. Tell it where you want to shoot and it gives you a list of shooting ranges within your specified distance. Click on a range and it gives you all of the pertinent details including the range address, telephone number, website address, range type, facility details and more. If you’re more of a visual person and you prefer to see your closest ranges shown on a map rather than in a list, there’s an option for that as well.
Not sure where you are? Not a problem. Enough smartphone and tablet apps these days make use of the device’s location services that it no longer seems like the magical feature that it once might have but it really works great in the Where To Shoot app. The app can figure out where you are and base the shooting range search results on that. The app also seamlessly integrates with the Continue reading
Are “Smart Optics” Catching On?
During last year’s SHOT Show, we covered the Tracking Point Xact system, a closed-loop weapon system with “smart optics” that compute ballistic data and make long range shooting so easy a caveman can do it. Although there were skeptics in the GunLink crew at first, they were won over. So, it seems, were others…
Remington recently announced their 2020 smart optic, powered by Tracking Point technology. In addition to a line with more caliber options – .30-06 Springfield, .308 Winchester and .223 Remington versus Tracking Point’s .338 Lapua and .300 WSM – the price is significantly lower. Where the Tracking Point offerings tip the scales in the $18,00-23,000 range, the Remington packages have a more palatable MSRP well under $6,000. Where the factory rifle offerings from Tracking Point were totally custom numbers, Remington 2020 packages come with familiar Model 700 and Bushmaster rifles underneath their smart optics. Firearms Guide Continues to Improve with 4th Edition
The latest installment in the Firearms Guide series released this month by Impressum Media demonstrates the publisher’s continuing efforts to improve the product. Arriving on the scene almost one year after the previous version, the 4th Edition Firearms Guide continues to grow.
The addition of several thousand entries pushes the total over 57,000 firearms, air gun and ammunition entries from more than 630 manufacturers – more than doubling the 250 manufacturers represented in the 3rd edition of the guide. Among these entries are over 4,300 printable high-resolution firearms schematics, which are great for routine maintenance or for figuring out how to put your firearm back together after a spring lets loose and sends that doohickey flying across the room.
If you prefer to leave the gunsmithing to professionals, don’t worry; there is much more to the Firearms Guide than just schematics. The guide also showcases over 39,000 high-resolution photographs as well as Continue reading
