GunLink Visits the Home of Black Nitride, AR Components
Checking Out the Operations at H&M and Rubber City Armory
If you have been keeping up with our weekly posts about what’s new at Brownells, you may remember a recent one in which Paul Levy told us about the low mass AR-15 bolt carrier group from Rubber City Armory (RCA). This caught my attention since Rubber City is the nickname of a certain Ohio city from whence one of the GunLink team members originally came and it just so happens that we get back there to visit every so often.
I reached out to RCA and who else is on the other end than Chris Cerino himself – 2nd place finisher on History Channel’s Top Shot Season 1 and Top Shot All Stars, Gun Talk TV field host, and firearms instructor. Add to that list Director of Operations for Rubber City Armory, a subsidiary of H&M Metal Processing – the home of Black Nitride™. After exchanging a few communiques, we arranged to stop by and check out their operation on an upcoming trip to the area.
The GunLink team arrived on the day of our visit and, wouldn’t you know it, Chris had bailed. Can you believe the nerve of this guy? Only kidding – Chris was attending to the higher priority of kicking ass and taking names at the Blue Ridge Mountain 3-Gun Championship. Despite the lack of television personalities accompanying us, our awesome hosts Shade and Pete gave us the grand tour and showed us around both the H&M and RCA sides of the equation. Continue reading
Sight Picture Quiz
“Equal light, equal height” gives you the right sight alignment, but what about sight picture?
Should your front sight cover your target? Should the top of your sights bisect your target? Or should your target be on top of your sights like a lollipop on a stick?

NRA Backs Hearing Protection Act
Fairfax, VA – The National Rifle Association’s Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) announced its support today for the Hearing Protection Act (H.R. 3799).
Sponsored by Congressman Matt Salmon (AZ-05), the legislation removes suppressors from regulations established under the National Firearms Act of 1934.
“Suppressors significantly reduce the chance of hearing loss for anyone who enjoys the shooting sports,” said Chris Cox, executive director of NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action. “On behalf of the NRA and our 5 million members, I want to thank Rep. Salmon for his leadership on this important bill.”
Prevailing regulations requires buyers to send an application to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), pay a $200 tax, and pass an arduously time consuming ATF background check. Under Salmon’s bill there will be no application, no tax, and buyers would be required to pass the same National Criminal Instant Background Check (NICS) as law-abiding guns owners.
As a leading voice in the industry, the American Suppressor Association has provided valuable insight to the creation of the Hearing Protection Act. “Suppressors benefit all involved in hunting and the shooting sports. It’s time to bring the law in line with modern technology,” said Cox.
It is currently legal to hunt with a suppressor in 37 states. 41 states allow private ownership of suppressors. Continue reading
Tedder Industries Launches Bigfoot Gun Belts Line
New Steel-Core Leather CCW Belts From Under the Same Umbrella as Popular Holsters
Bigfoot Gun Belts, a breakthrough company that specializes in making the world’s strongest and most reliable gun belts, is proud to release their highly anticipated Untamed Series to the open and concealed carry world. These premium leather gun belts exude quality and comfort, while providing superior support to your everyday IWB and OWB carry.
Never deal with a sagging holster ever again!
Bigfoot Gun Belts are made with a double layering of English Bridle leather, which is cut to order by a handful of skilled gun belt craftsmen. This drum dyed leather, available in traditional black or rich brown, has been chosen for its legendary strength and long lifetime.
To provide even more strength to this beast of a gun belt, craftsmen at Bigfoot Gun Belts have embedded a spring steel core between the two layers of rich leather. The steel core, available in both the 14-ounce and 18-ounce leather belts, provides handgun owners with a strength rarely seen before (perhaps only from a distance with a shaky camera).
Each of our gun belts go through a Triple Edge Finishing process, which includes a bevel, burnish, and paint done by the industries finest gun belt makers. This creates a smooth and uniform finish and also provides protection to the edges of your gun belt.
To match the strength and quality of the hand cut leather, Bigfoot Gun Belts are made with corrosion resistant hardware that will stand up to the harsh elements. The nickel-plated roller buckle will also allow the belt to effortlessly ‘roll’ through your buckle without damaging the leather, while the snaps provide you with an easy way to swap out your belt buckle within seconds.
Every Bigfoot Gun Belt is backed by our 7-Day Test Drive and Legendary Warranty. This provides you with a chance to test it out with your CCW for a full week with absolutely no risk. If you’re not fully satisfied by this beast of a belt, send it back for a full refund.

Armed Citizen: Store Owner Uses Semi-Automatic Rifle to Repel Armed Robbers
Rami Murrar, owner of Bouchard’s clothing store in Milwaukee, Wisc., was tending to his establishment when at around 4 a.m. a van smashed into the security doors and concrete posts protecting his store. A daring organized heist; after the van broke through the doors, three armed men attempted to gain access to the store. Murrar responded to the threat by retrieving a semi-automatic rifle and firing at the armed intruders, striking one and causing all to flee. A short time later police caught up with one of the suspected robbers at a local hospital.
Following the incident, Murrar told a local news outlet, “It was a lot of guys out there. So I believe if they would’ve gotten through that door, I would’ve been dead, so that’s the reason I reached for my gun.” Despite his successful experience with armed self-defense, Murrar made clear he did not relish the position he was placed in and showed mercy towards his attackers, stating, “I’m glad the guy made it. Again, I didn’t come to work that night or that day to kill somebody, so I hope he recovers from what happened, and he learns a lesson and be a good message for all the young guys out there.” (WISN, Milwaukee, Wis. 07/27/15, WITI, Milwaukee, Wis. 07/27/15)

Armed Citizen: Veteran Halts Gas Station Robbery
Army veteran Don Rogers was inside a gas station in Sycamore, Ga. when a robber armed with a gun entered the store and demanded money from the clerk. Rogers responded to the threat by drawing a pistol and firing at the thief, striking him twice and causing him to flee. The robber made it to a waiting getaway car, but a short distance later the thief and his accomplice stopped the car and called for medical attention. Police captured the pair a short time later.
Following the incident, Turner County Sheriff Andy Hester commented to a local media outlet, stating, “People are just sick of people running them up… And robbing, and stealing, and pillaging, and people are tired of it. These people that’ll go out and do this kind of stuff need to realize- it ain’t always gonna fare to their favor, just because they’re a predator.” Rogers told the same outlet, “I was hoping nothing like this would ever happen, but I was glad I had my weapon with me.” Rogers added that he thinks every lawful gun owner should carry.
