Setting the Stage for Gun Control to be a 2016 Campaign Issue?

Clinton Joins Obama in Call for Additional Restrictions on Constitutionally Protected Rights

“You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.  And what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.” – Rahm Emanuel

Clinton_Senate_Armed_ServicesAlthough the quote above is from 2008, the concept is nothing new for anti-gun zealots on the left, including Emanuel’s political cronies.  The current mayor of Chicago – a prime example of the failures of gun control – has close ties with many other anti-gun politicians, including President Obama and 2016 democrat front-runner Hillary Clinton, and it is obvious that they are sharing the same playbook.

Emanuel was first appointed as the finance committee director for Bill Clinton’s presidential bid in 1992, before going on to be Clinton’s Assistant to the President for Political Affairs.  Emanuel was later serving as Senior Advisor to the President for Policy and Strategy when when the 1994 “Assault Weapon Ban” (another fine example of the failures of gun control) was enacted.  After a stint as a US Congressman representing Illinois’s 5th district, Emanuel was appointed by the Obama administration to serve as White House Chief of Staff following the 2008 election.  Perhaps it was during all of this close time together that Emanuel shared his strategy of capitalizing on crises to push unpopular political agendas like the ones that top democrats are now espousing with renewed vigor in the wake of the recent tragedy at a Charleston, South Carolina, church.    Continue reading

Get a Grip – How to Keep Your Pistol Under Control

GunLinkTALON_011A Review of TALON Grips on GLOCK and KelTec Pistols

As any pistol shooter knows, having the proper grip on your firearm is important.  An improper hold can not only lead to missing your mark but can also allow the pistol to move around, requiring a grip adjustment between shots, slide bite on your hand, or even jams – the last thing you want if you ever need to use your firearm in a defensive situation.

The goal of providing a solid purchase on a handgun is nothing new.  Wood grips with checkering or other texturing have been around nearly as long as modern handguns themselves and the evolution of polymer framed pistols has seen (often unsuccessful) changes in the molded texture of the factory grip.  However, given the properties of the materials from which the frames are made, there is only so much grip that texture can provide, and it is often a compromise between grip and comfort while carrying or shooting.   Continue reading

Harbor Freight “Clarifies” Position on Firearms in Stores

Tool Retailer Says They Will Defer to Local Laws

HFyesgunsHarbor Freight, purveyor of cheap, foreign, disposable tools, caused a bit of a stir recently over their policy on legally carrying firearms into their stores.  In defending the policy, the company wrote on facebook, “[…] this policy is intended to provide an environment where all our customers feel comfortable […] all firearms should be left in your car while shopping at Harbor Freight.

Shortly thereafter, and following much outcry from firearm carry advocates, the company issued a “clarification” of their position.  And, apparently, “clarification” means “reversal.”  The company posted:    Continue reading

Keynote presenter Seth Mattison at the 2015 NSSF Industry Summit.

The 2015 NSSF Industry Summit, held this past week in Savannah, Georgia, is one that will go down on the books. Setting a new attendance record and sold to capacity, firearms industry professionals met for two days of presentations that garnered a wealth of accolades from those who traveled from all across the country to engage in discussions aimed at increasing hunter and shooting sports participation in America.

The central theme of the 2015 Industry Summit, diversity, is one that proved the industry is preparing to significantly change the way it does business.
“We’ve talked loosely about diversity for years,” said Chris Dolnack, NSSF Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, “but there’s never been a cohesive effort across the industry as a whole to address this subject and innovate change. This year’s Industry Summit showed us that we’re about to experience a ground-swell shift in that attitude. Summit attendees came fully prepared, arriving with focused, on-point questions about what changes they need to make in their businesses to embrace a new consumer audience. Rewarded with a panel of speakers who presented numerous models of success that that are replicable from manufacturer to retailer, wildlife agency to public range, Summit attendees took away viable avenues of change that will positively impact our industry in the months to come.”   Continue reading
