POMA and Mossy Oak Announce Pinnacle Award Winners

The Professional Outdoor Media Association’s (POMA) 2020 Pinnacle Award honorees were announced by Jake Meyer, Public Relations Manager at Mossy Oak, during POMA’s Virtual Conference on Tuesday, August 11. Mossy Oak has been the presenting partner of the Pinnacle Awards since the program’s inception in 2008, and this year they were joined by Duluth Pack.

The Pinnacle Awards honor content creators for remarkable achievement in traditional outdoor sports-focused communications, including writing, photography/illustration/art, and broadcasting as well as content focused on wildlife conservation.

“The outdoor media has always been a key part of what we do,” stated Toxey Haas, founder and CEO of Mossy Oak. “We started our company with their help and we’ve grown it with the same. They’re our business partners as well as our friends.”

“We’re proud to sponsor the Pinnacle Awards to recognize the best of the best every year,” Ben Maki, Mossy Oak’s Chief Marketing Officer, added. “It’s an important way to reward excellence in outdoor journalism and encourage more in the future.”

NSSF: 2021 SHOT Show Moving Forward

The Show Must Go On

In the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which has been shutting down businesses and grinding trade shows to a halt (I have missed exhibiting at two and attending another two already), firearms industry trade organization National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) has announced that the 2021 SHOT Show will go on as planned.

The Shooting Hunting and Outdoor Trades Show, scheduled for January 19-22, is the largest show of its kind. With the expansion into the brand new Caesars Forum, this 43rd iteration of the SHOT Show will be the biggest one yet – featuring nearly three-quarters of a million square feet (nearly 17 acres) of exhibit space.

Despite rumors that several big names are already pulling back from the show over Coronavirus concerns, NSSF said that the SHOT Show team has spent the past month working with industry manufacturers and suppliers to confirm exhibitors and plans to have nearly 3,000 booths on display.

The health and safety of our attendees, exhibitors, media, and our employees is a foremost priority,” noted NSSF Senior VP, Chris Dolnack.  “We are in constant contact with our partners monitoring the latest developments in the COVID-19 pandemic as well as clarifying important safety protocols and guidelines for large events.

Dolnack said that, although the 2021 SHOT Show may feel a bit different thanks to health and safety precautions (likely meaning mask requirements, lower attendance, social distancing guidelines, and so on), the critical buying and networking opportunities should be very much the same.

From the opening shots of the invite-only SHOT Show Range Day to the 17 acres of exhibit floor, the GunLink team will be at the show to bring you the latest news, product releases, and reviews as we celebrate our 10th year of SHOT Show coverage.

Stay tuned to the GunLink Blog and GunLink Forums for full coverage and be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for live updates before, during, and after the show.

NSSF and Manufacturers Try to Help Inform Media of Suppressor Facts

Shockingly, news media remains willfully ignorant and sticks with agenda

A few weeks ago, the National Shooting Sports Foundation and representatives from Daniel Defense and Sig Sauer hosted Washington DC-based media for a suppressor demo day at a range in Manassas, Virginia.

Media members, including those from the Associated Press as shown in the video, had the opportunity to fire suppressed rifles and pistols for themselves and to get an education on suppressor (a.k.a. silencer) basics.  Company reps explained how suppressors are not assassin’s tools that enable gun-ninjas to perpetrate undetectable crime but, rather, reduce the report of a firearm from louder-than-a-jet-engine to about-like-a-jack-hammer – helping to get it closer to OSHA hearing-safe levels.

As the Hearing Protection Act gains support from both House and Senate lawmakers (148 in the House and 16 in the Senate), as well as from Second Amendment supporters, we won’t be holding our breath waiting for fact-based reporting from the mainstream media.

Keep pushing, keep writing your reps to support the bill, keep calling out the media and anti-gun politicians on their misunderstandings (or outright lies).

Miss Sloane: America Votes “NO” Once Again

via NRA-ILA

misssloanefail“You can’t win them all,” as the old saying goes, but when it comes to the Second Amendment, gun control advocates can’t even come close. Such is clearly the case with Miss Sloane, the latest of Hollywood’s repeated attempts to push a gun control narrative on the American people.  Of course, they didn’t see this coming, any more than they saw a Donald Trump victory coming.  But that’s because they refuse to acknowledge the basic simple truth about the American people when it comes to our firearms freedom.  Well, we’ll say it again, the American people aren’t buying your anti-gun narrative.

Miss Sloane features Jessica Chastain as a Washington lobbyist who takes on “the establishment” to push for passage of gun control in the U.S. Congress.  As reported by Stephen Gutowski at FreeBeacon, the “political thriller” opened last weekend to much buzz and fanfare among gun control groups, but tanked completely at the box office, making one industry list of the worst openings of the past 35 years for a movie with a national release.

Incredibly, Gutowski reports that a representative of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence actually said, “… I can tell you that its production alone, with our input, is the success.”  In other words, it is of little consequence that nobody wants to see a movie that pushes for gun control, its mere existence is what matters.

This very telling admission provides great insight into the base motive and method of those in the gun control movement and their view of policy-making in the United States.  What the American people want is irrelevant, gun control elites know better, and they will continue to push their message through all available means.  They certainly have willing accomplices in the media and entertainment industry.

But we will warn those in the gun control movement not to take box-office losses lightly.  Because Hollywood does not.  Lest anyone forget, it is middle-America that provides the means which afford so many in the entertainment industry extraordinary wealth and lavish lifestyles.     Continue reading
