NRAAM Off to a Great Start

2014 NRAAM Exhibit HallDay one of the 2014 NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits is in the can and the third of the big early-year firearms shows is off to a great start already.  GunLink staff is on hand to cover the show with all of the new and exciting products, services and more being offered to the shooting, hunting and outdoors communities and the coverage starts here.  Keep an eye on the GunLink Blog as well as the GunLink Forums for the latest guns, gadgets and more.

GunLink staff has been covering NSSF SHOT Show for several years now but the 2014 NRAAM marks our first visit to this show, so we weren’t sure what to expect.  We spend day one roaming the sometimes-narrow and often-crowded aisles of the exhibit floor, visiting with companies and plotting out our agenda for the remainder of the show.  We caught up with some familiar faces like Lola and Hank Strange, N82 Tactical, MyCaseBuilder.com, Sticky Holsters, the KelTec crew and others.  Colorful Heizer PistolsWe are also getting a chance to meet up with less familiar faces with new and exciting offerings for target shooters, hunters and defensive firearm owners.  There is a strong presence of companies offering products catering to female shooters and, since we have one of our female editors here at the show, we will be able to provide a more useful perspective on those products.

The NRAAM exhibit hall floor is packed with show special pricing on various products and we are taking advantage of a number of them including some new Continue reading

Q&A with Stars of CMT’s Guntucky

Guntucky Season 2We had a chance for a quick Q&A session with some of the stars from CMT’s Guntucky.  The reality series, gearing up to start their second season, focuses on the Sumner family as they run Knob Creek Gun Range in West Point, Kentucky  KCR, of course, is home to the bi-annual machine gun shoot, an event that showcases some serious firepower and was featured in season one.  If you missed season one, you can watch and discuss full episodes on the GunLink forums here.

The 10-episode season one featured 30-minute episodes that included some pretty zany antics including exploding log cabins, Zombie Apocalypse preparations, a doomsday-ready SUV and a firearms crash course for the firearms first-timer boyfriend of Stephanie Sumner… from her dad!

Kenny Sumner, co-owner of the range, and his brother Steven answered some questions for GunLink: Continue reading

Spring 2014 Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot and Gun Show

Spring 2013 KCR FireballThe bi-annual Machine Gun Shoot at Knob Creek Gun Range in West Point, Kentucky is coming up in just a couple of weeks.  The three-day event, held this year on April 11, 12 and 13, draws attendees from all over the globe to the gun range outside of Louisville.  Attendees can witness the spectacle of several day and night shoots as dozens of full-auto weapons sling tons (literally) of lead down range.  In addition to spectating at the reserved main firing line of NFA collectors and enthusiasts, attendees can rent machine guns to shoot, compete in a number of shooting competitions and find great deals at the gun show which features hundreds of dealers and individuals from all over.

General admission for the event is $15/day for adults and $5/day for children under 12.  On-site camping is also available starting at $20 per person.  Unlike in past years where attendees would have to worry about the weather causing issues with vehicular access to the range, the new bridge makes it virtually impossible to get flooded out.  Please note that Saturday April 12 coincides with the the Kentucky Derby Festival kick-off celebration in Downtown Louisville, so plan for traffic and accommodations accordingly.

It’s a Wrap for SHOT Show 2014

Leaving Las VegasAnother SHOT Show is wrapped up from the Sands Expo Center in Fabulous Las Vegas and attendees were treated to the introduction of many new products.  Some products will change the way you use your firearms, some are reinvented wheels and some are just plain “out there.”  Since SHOT Show is industry-only, the GunLink crew and friends were on hand to cover the show and help scratch your itch for firearms industry news until you (hopefully) get a chance to attend one of the other upcoming shows.

During SHOT Show week, we got to fire some innovative (and fun!) weapons.  We traveled thousands of miles across the United States only to run into the folks that run the range where I’m a member as well as a gun maker that grew up (and still has family) right in GunLink HQ’s neighborhood.  We saw Greg Jordan beat out Taran Butler and take home $50,000 from the 3 Gun Nation Ruble on the Range championships.

During the State of the Industry Dinner, we saw NSSF and POMA give the Grits Gresham Shooting Sports Communicator Awarda to a man who called the AR-15 platform “terrorist rifles” and called for their ban.  The unbelievability of that was topped only by the Penn & Teller act that immediately followed.  There was good news at Continue reading
