Firearms Industry Shopping Comparison Engine Addresses Changes in Search Policies
GunSpec’s Search and Shopping Comparison Engine
Dedicated Entirely to Firearms Industry Increases Capabilities for Retailers
KINGSTON, NY (July 2012) – GunSpec, a shopping comparison site for the firearms industry, has stepped up its commitment to providing online services for retailers and firearms enthusiasts in light of recent changes of policy by one of the largest search engines in the world.
Through the new policy, firearms retailers must comply with the rules that include pay-for-position and the elimination of any products that appear on the list of prohibited products to include “guns, ammunition and knives.” Aware of the serious implications for retailers, GunSpec is currently developing new programs that will allow displaced retailers to set their own budgets, bid on search product placement and provide them with additional brand exposure for their stores.

Next Edition of Firearms Guide Packs Even More Info Than Before
After a few hiccups with the release date, the long-awaited 3rd Edition of the Firearms Guide is finally available. I spoke with Chris from Impressum Media, creators of the Multimedia Firearms Guide, at the 2012 SHOT Show earlier this year where he told me of the coming updates. During the show, Chris had anticipated the release within a few weeks, which turned into early March, which turned into late March and then early May. The wait is over and users now have access to detailed information on ammunition and firearms from over 250 manufacturers spanning 38 countries totaling over 55,000 entries. The creators tout the Firearms Guide 3rd Edition as “the most extensive firearms, ammo and air guns reference guide and schematics library.”
The Firearms Guide isn’t just a list of guns, either. The entries include a great deal of detail including price, manufacturer info, barrel length, sight radius, caliber, features list and more. This volume of information could easily overwhelm you if it were not so easy to navigate. Entries can be searched for by name or narrowed down by selecting from 14 different criteria – including caliber, country of origin, price, action and more. Continue reading

Hot New Book Shows How To Create Working Firearm Replicas From LEGOs
GunLink recently got our hands on a copy of a brand new book by 17 year old British LEGO-whiz Jack Streat. Why am I talking about toy bricks on a firearms website? Because the book is LEGO® Heavy Weapons: Build Working Replicas of Four of the World’s Most Impressive Guns, an instruction manual on how to create realistic model firearms from a popular children’s toy.
If you like guns and you were ever a child with building blocks, chances are good that you may have fashioned those blocks into crude L-shaped “guns” to battle make-believe bank robbers or other bad guys. Rest assured that Jack’s creations are NOT those crude L-shaped chunks of plastic!
You may have already seen some of Streat’s creations on the internet; he posted his first LEGO gun online several years ago at the age of 13 and has kept it up ever since, sharing pictures, instructions, tips and videos which have been a big hit with LEGO enthusiasts and gun-geeks alike. His YouTube channel boast nearly 17 million views, including his working LEGO AK-47 with over 3.3 million views alone.
As if it weren’t plain enough just from looking at the pictures of Jack’s creations, the book’s introduction drives home the point that he clearly possesses a sharp, creative mind and sound engineering principles. Along with some of his personal background, the author describes his methods, extolling the benefits of modular design and detailing his use of CAD (computer aided design) software throughout the process.
In the book, Streat provides complete Continue reading
Governor Opposes Judge on Self Defense Handgun Issue
S&W Takes on Taurus in the Big, Multi-Caliber Revolver Category
Love it or hate it, The Taurus Judge has been around for a while now. In case you’ve been under a rock (or if you just ignored those strange looking things in the corner of your gun shop’s case), the Judge, pictured at right, is a Taurus revolver capable of firing both .410 shotgun shells and .45 Colt rounds. Taurus also offers other flavors of Judge revolvers which can add .454 Casull rounds into the mix. The revolver, formerly model 4410, gained the Judge moniker in 2006 after Taurus Executive VP Bob Morrison learned that the firearm was becoming popular for courtroom self-defense with judges in high-crime areas.
The Judge line of revolvers is marketed as a short-distance self defense firearm and is also enjoying some popularity as a “snake gun” or “rat gun.” Despite numerous critics of the platform, the Judge line seems to be selling briskly and is reported to have become Taurus’ top selling firearm. Perhaps to the chagrin of those critics, Smith & Wesson has entered the market with their answer to the Judge: the cleverly named Governor, which also fires .45 Colt and 2.5″ .410 cartridges but also introduces the ability to fire .45ACP rounds.
To be sure, the idea of a big, heavy revolver that can shoot a variety of big, heavy ammunition isn’t Continue reading
