The end (of January) is nigh, and that means that we are wrapping up another SHOT Show – the National Shooting Sport Foundation’s annual Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade Show which showcases the best new innovations that the industry has to offer. As in past years, the GunLink crew spent an action packed week-long stint in Las Vegas to cover the show – from the live fire demos of SHOT Show Range Day right through all four days of walking the 640,000 square feet of show floor to visit the more than 1,600 exhibitors. If you didn’t make it to the Range Day, here is what you missed. Continue reading
New GLOCK Models Officially Unveiled at SHOT
Although ads for the new GLOCK MOS models were leaked several weeks ago, they haven’t been officially announced by the Austrian firearms maker until now.
GLOCK, Inc. announced yesterday the release of the new Modular Optic System (MOS). The MOS platform was designed by GLOCK engineers to enable users to mount their preferred reflex sights to their pistol in order to improve their target acquisition. The Gen4 models G34, G35, and G41 will now be available in the new MOS platform. The GLOCK 40 Gen4 in MOS Configuration – a long slide 10mm pistol intended for 10mm enthusiasts as well as handgun hunters – will be available soon.
“Our research has prompted us to release the MOS configurations for the G34 Gen4, G35 Gen4 and G41 Gen4 and the new G40 Gen4 in the MOS Configuration.” stated Josh Dorsey, VP at GLOCK, Inc. “The new GLOCK MOS platform offers a convenient way to mount reflex sights without costly alterations to a warrantied slide.”
The MOS models include an Adapter Plate Kit containing 4 adapter plates as well as the tools for the removal and installation for a variety of optics. Optics are not included with the MOS pistols, leaving users the flexibility to add the sight of their choice. Otherwise, the specifications for the Gen4 MOS configured G34, G35, and G41 are the same as their respective non-MOS versions. Continue reading
What Will We See at SHOT Show 2015?
It is hard to believe, but SHOT Show 2015 is less than four days away. The eagerly anticipated Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show is the largest show of its kind, featuring more than 1,600 exhibitors and drawing tens of thousands of industry-member attendees as they seek out the next trend setting products and services in the shooting industry. Simply put, this is the show to find out about new firearms and gear product launches.
As usual, GunLink will be covering the show again this year – from the SHOT Show Range Day before the official show opening to the 170,000 square feet of show floor exhibit space. There will no doubt be many great product unveiled this year and GunLink will be covering them live during the show and continuing coverage after the show closes.
So, what can we expect to see from SHOT this year?
Heckler & Koch is rolling out several new updates to the handgun and long gun categories, including new HK45 Cerakote colors, the brand new USP9 Tactical, and the now-shipping MR556A1 rifle – a semi-auto version of the HK416. Range day attendees will also have a chance to get their hands on the new striker-fired VP9 pistol.
Charter Arms adds another model to its Pitbull line of rimless cartridge revolvers. The stable will now include a .45 ACP model in addition to the existing 9mm and .40 S&W models. IWI US will be showing off their $1200-range UZI Pro pistols, one of which features a now-ubiquitous arm brace.

SHOT Show Mobile App Helps Keep Attendees on Track
The NSSF Shooting Hunting and Outdoor Trades (SHOT) Show features more than 1,600 exhibitors that cover 630,000 net square feet of exhibit space. That’s over 14 acres, making SHOT Show the largest trade show of its kind in the world and the fifth largest trade show in Las Vegas, the SHOT Show. With so much to see in just four days, navigating the show aisles can be challenging, but it doesn’t have to be.
The SHOT Show mobile app is an invaluable tool for helping to navigate the show. Not only does the app allow attendees to make a to-do list of exhibitors that they want to visit, it also allows them to create a schedule to better manage their time, add notes about exhibitors, and view the New Product Showcase. The app can also save you the trouble of carrying around an armload of exhibitor lists and maps since it also includes a full show program featuring show floor maps and event schedules. Users can also plot a direct route from their current location on the show floor to an exhibitor’s booth – no more wandering around bumping into people while you try to figure out where you are, orient your map and navigate the aisles.
On top of all that, the SHOT mobile app keeps you up to date with what new products are creating a buzz by plugging you in to show related social media feeds like Facebook, Twitter, and the SHOT Show blog.
The 2015 SHOT Show exhibits are open January 20-23 at the Sands Expo Center. If you will be attending, be sure to check in on the GunLink 2015 SHOT Show Thread and then head over to shotmobile.com to download the app. And don’t forget to share your good finds from the show floor on the GunLink Forums. If you can’t make it to the show, you can also request coverage of specific products or product categories there.
Film Details Attacks on Right to Keep and Bear Arms
We first caught wind of Assaulted: Civil Rights Under Fire in 2012 when the original Kickstarter campaign was making its rounds. Wildly popular amongst crowd-funders, through the original campaign and the “finishing” campaign, director Kris Koenig raised $148,737 from nearly 2,000 contributions – well over the $135K goal.
Koenig describes the goal of Assaulted as “educating the public about how their rights are under attack.” A noble goal, given the never-ending attack on the supposedly constitutionally-protected right to keep and bear arms. The film touches on a number of historical events ranging from the 1946 Battle of Athens (TN) to the LA riots of the early ’90s and gun confiscations after hurricane Katrina. Narrated by rapper Ice-T, Assaulted features appearances by Ted Nugent, Chris Cheng, Alan Gottlieb, Alan Gura and others – all rock stars in their own right.

Custom Cases Made Easy
Having worked in a previous life for an equipment manufacturer who put their wares into Pelican 1520 cases, I’ve picked and plucked my way through enough case foam to last a lifetime. I’ve also picked, plucked and cut plenty of cases for my own firearms, electronics and other gear so I know what kind of hassle, mess and potential for foul-ups are involved to often end up with so-so results. That’s why I was excited to spot MyCaseBuilder while roaming the aisles of SHOT Show 2014.
There are several options commonly available when it comes to storing and transporting firearms in a hard case. These options range from totally generic to completely custom; a range that generally corresponds to almost no protection to superb protection with a tailor made fit. Continue reading
