U.S. Marine Corps Adoption of M18 Underscores Success of SIG SAUER Modular Handgun System Program

SIG SAUER, Inc. is honored to announce that the United States Marine Corps (USMC) is set to adopt the M18, the compact variant of the U.S. Army’s Modular Handgun System (MHS), as their official duty pistol.

“The Marine Corps announcement to put the M18 in service with the Marines is a very exciting development for SIG SAUER, and a true testament to the success of the MHS program,” began Ron Cohen, President & CEO, SIG SAUER, Inc. “The Marine’s procurement of the M18 brings the adoption of our Modular Handgun System full circle, as this means, beginning in 2020, either the M17 or the M18 will be officially in service with every branch of the U.S. Military.”

Hudson Manufacturing Files for Bankruptcy

Maker of Hudson H9 Pistol Files Chapter 7 Bankruptcy

According to several sources, including bankruptcy information site InfoRuptcy, Hudson Manufacturing has submitted filings for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

The New Wonder Pistol

When we met with Cy and Lauren Hudson in the past about their ambitious venture into producing the new H9 pistol, they were genuinely passionate about the project and, personally, seemed like nice people.

To be sure, the demo Hudson pistols that we shot did shoot well but, for the life of us, we could not really figure out the buzz around it. At the SHOT Show product announcement and shooting bays, the crowd of firearms industry New Media folks around the Hudson booth was a hundred people deep, all clamoring to catch a glimpse of the new pistol or get their hands on it.

Truthfully, we had questions about how well an expensive new, unproven, funny looking, and heavy (2.5+ lbs loaded) steel framed pistol would fare breaking into a market trending toward smaller, lighter carry pistols. Yet they continued to innovate, making design changes and, a year after the H9’s introduction, releasing a half-pound lighter aluminum H9A variant. With all of that work involved, they would certainly need to find a lot of buyers for the $1100 pistol to remain viable.

Troubles Begin

According to Josh Supnick’s H9 Owners site, it looks like major issues started in Summer of 2018 when Hudson announced that they would be fabricating their own slides for new models instead of having the third party H9 slide manufacturer make them.  The other company put the kibosh on their relationship and stopped making the original H9 slides for Hudson, leaving the company unable to meet production demand.

During all of this, Hudson was also having tolerance issues with the H9 grip modules, causing functionality problems with pistols that had already made it out to customers. The company stopped shipping new pistols and started dealing with more and more warranty claims on those that had shipped.

In August 2018, contract manufacturer Cambridge Valley Machining filed suit over Hudson’s failure to pay for a portion of the nearly $1.7M order for H9 grips, barrels, and other parts. Hudson counter-filed stating that the breach was on CVM’s end as they had failed to provide adequate product, causing them to not be able to sell the pistols to generate revenue to pay for the order.

By fall, Hudson did not even have enough parts on hand to complete those warranty repairs, could not fulfill existing orders (to the tune of more than a million dollars), and could not secure investors or companies to license the design.

Production staff, and then front office staff, were laid off. After launching the original H9 at the 2017 SHOT Show and the lighter H9A at the 2018 SHOT Show, they company had planned to exhibit at the 2019 SHOT Show but visitors were greeted by an empty Hudson booth.

Hudson had disappeared from Twitter by August 2018 and abandoned their Facebook page by December.

RIP Hudson Mfg

The latest nail in Hudson’s coffin came last week when they filed for Chapter 7 liquidation bankruptcy – a process through which remaining assets are sold to pay back creditors.

The repayment of those creditors looks like it might be about as likely as all of the H9 owners with pistols in for warranty work receiving back their repaired pistols (or receiving them at all).

The bankruptcy filing claims that Hudson is anywhere from $10 million to $50 million in debt while having only $50,000 in assets. The list of creditors to Hudson Manufacturing runs 18 pages in the filings.

41st SHOT Show Kicks Off at Sands Expo in Las Vegas

The world’s largest trade show for target shooting, hunting, outdoor and law enforcement products injects more than $88 million to Las Vegas and Nevada economies.

The 41st Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show (SHOT Show) opened today at the Sands Expo Center and will span four days, running Jan. 22-25. The 2019 show marks the 21st time the show has been in Las Vegas, where it has been at the Sands Expo Center continuously the last 10 years.

SHOT Show will attract more than 60,000 professionals from the firearms and outdoor industry to view new, innovative products used for target shooting, hunting, outdoor recreation and law enforcement purposes.

The SHOT Show is a boon to the Las Vegas and Nevada business community, pumping more than $88 million in non-gaming revenue into the economy. SHOT Show attracts more than 2,400 exhibiting companies occupying more than 692,000 net square feet of exhibit space, completely filling the Sands Expo.

Demand for exhibit space at the show reflects the high-interest Americans have for firearms ownership and recreational shooting equipment. NSSF surveys show that some 40 million Americans would like to learn more about the target-shooting sports.

Owned and sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the firearms industry trade association, SHOT Show is the largest trade show of its kind in the world. The show is open to trade members only and not to the public. No firearms are transferred at the show. Consumers will see the products unveiled at SHOT Show on retailers’ shelves throughout the coming the year.   Continue reading

SHOT Show Industry Day at the Range 2019

In the desert nearly an hour outside of Las Vegas, the cool air is filled with the smell of diesel exhaust and the sound of gunfire. Lots of gunfire. Like, really… a LOT of gunfire.

It isn’t some wild west shootout and, although there will be pistols at noon, they’ll be rattling off shots all day – along with rifles, shotguns, machine guns, and a whole lot more. Welcome to the 2019 SHOT Show Industry Day at the Range.

As they do every year on the day before the NSSF Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trades Show – the industry’s annual B2B expo – oficially opens its doors, nearly 200 vendors and exhibitors meet at shooting range in Boulder City to host invited media and industry buyers.  Those in attendance braved the biting wind, easily 15mph all day long, to see industry leaders showcase the latest and greatest hardware that their companies have to offer.  Not just to see new guns – but also to shoot them.

Given the political climate several years ago, it seemed as if a lot of firearms R&D had slowed down – perhaps for fear of increased regulation. The relentless attack on 2A rights has not let up in the latest election cycles and, when we saw that a couple familiar names were absent at Range Day, we worried that, instead of innovation, we might just find new lipstick on old pigs. While there was some of that – the same firearm lines with addition of new calibers or colors – we were treated to a few interesting items.

Glock Introduces Two New Slimline Models – G43X and G48

G43X and G48 Officially Announced Just Ahead of SHOT Show

Several weeks after an online “leak” began creating buzz about the two new single-stack 9mm Glock pistols, the company officially announced the new additions today.

The rumor mill kicked off with word of the G43X, complete with rendered photos of what the new pistol – a G43’s 3.4″ barrel and 6″ slide atop a .75″ longer grip – would look like. This longer grip gives it a magazine capacity bump of four rounds from six to 10. As several totally-organic posters on social media pointed out that the “X” designation meant that it was crossed something, news of the G48 spread. This latest offering has a nearly identical footprint as the G19 but shaves off a tremendous 0.16″ at a loss of 5 rounds, matching the 43X’s 10 round capacity.

The GLOCK 43X and the GLOCK 48 feature the design of the Slimline series with a silver slide and are a perfect fit for everyday carry. Chambered in 9x19mm, both pistols feature a compact Slimline frame with silver nPVD finish.

With the success of the Slimline series in the marketplace and over one million GLOCK 43 pistols sold in just three years, the Slimline series pistols have been tested, trusted and proven,” said Glock Vice President Josh Dorsey. “We listened to the consumers request for a GLOCK Slimline model with increased round capacity and both of these pistols deliver that flawlessly. GLOCK’s continued pursuit of perfection drives innovation while not straying from our promise of reliability and durability and that is demonstrated in the G43X and G48.”

Designed for comfort, the G43X and G48 combine a longer grip length with a minimal width around 1” for what the company describes as “a comfortably balanced, versatile grip that’s ideal for a variety of users.” While the two pistols share the same size frame, they have different slide lengths.

These pistols incorporate elements of the Slimline series such as the short trigger distance, a frame with a built-in beavertail, a reversible magazine catch and the match-grade GLOCK Marksman Barrel (GMB). The G43X and G48 also feature precision-milled front serrations. Both models are available in three sight configurations; standard, GLOCK Night Sights (GNS), and our personal favorite, Ameriglo BOLD.

The silver Slimline models G43X and G48 will be showcased at SHOT Show 2019 and will be available on dealer shelves beginning January 21st. The GunLink team will be sure to get some hands-on range time with the new pistols and share our experiences here and in the GunLink Forums SHOT Show board.

Mossberg Joins Gun Manufacturers Cutting Ties with Dicks Sporting Goods

Mossberg Made In USADick’s Sporting Goods is continuing their anti-gun procession and firearms manufacturers and Second Amendment advocates are noticing.

First, they came for America’s Rifle (when they decided to stop selling AR-15 style firearms). Then they came for good business sense (when they decided to destroy their bought-and-paid existing stock of such firearms). Then they came for the young adults (when they decided not to sell any firearms to legal purchasers between the ages of 18-20). Most recently, they are coming for the Second Amendment as a whole (by hiring a team of anti-gun lobbyists to push gun control in Washington).

Today, Mossberg – alongside Springfield Armory and Hi-Point Firearms – joined the ranks of companies abandoning their business relationship with the retailer. We’re happy to see those in the $51.4 billion-and-growing industry standing up against alleged industry-partners who are actively working to do them harm and hope to see more jumping on board. It is time to stick together and let businesses know that they won’t let businesses stab them in the back and run roughshod over their livelihoods, rights, hobbies, and passions. Just look at the backlash over the YETI fiasco.

While the other companies may be more well known firearms with the potential to draw Dick’s unwarranted ire, the decision by Mossberg – who is known for their shotguns and rifles that may be more palatable to the sporting goods chain’s delicate sensibilities – might hit Dick’s, and their Field & Stream subsidiary – a little harder in the pocketbook. Vote with you wallet, and all…

Here is today’s announcement from Mossberg:

Mossberg Terminates Relationship with Dick’s Sporting Goods

O.F. Mossberg & Sons, Inc., a leading American firearms manufacturer, announced today its decision
to discontinue selling products to Dick’s Sporting Goods, and its subsidiary, Field & Stream, in response to their hiring of gun control lobbyists in April 2018.

Effective immediately, O.F. Mossberg & Sons will not accept any future orders from Dick’s Sporting Goods or Field & Stream, and is in the process of evaluating current contractual agreements.

“It has come to our attention that Dick’s Sporting Goods recently hired lobbyists on Capitol Hill to promote additional gun control.” said Iver Mossberg, Chief Executive Officer of O.F. Mossberg & Sons. “Make no mistake, Mossberg is a staunch supporter of the U.S. Constitution and our Second Amendment rights, and we fully disagree with Dick’s Sporting Goods’ recent anti-Second Amendment actions.”

Consumers are urged to visit one of the thousands of pro-Second Amendment firearm retailers to make their purchases of Mossberg and Maverick® firearms. Firearm retailers can be found through the Mossberg Dealer Locator by visiting http://www.mossberg.com/dealers/.
