Mossberg MC1sc Pistol Wins 2020 NRA Golden Bullseye Award
Mossberg is pleased to announce that their MC1sc (subcompact) 9mm pistol was recognized with the NRA Publications Golden Bullseye Award for the 2020 Shooting Illustrated Handgun of the Year. All 2020 award winners will be recognized in the May 2020 issue of American Rifleman, American Hunter and Shooting Illustrated magazines.
Golden Bullseye Award winners are selected by a committee of editors, graphic designers and veteran members of the NRA publications staff. To qualify for consideration, a product must have been recently introduced and available to consumers; used or tested by a staff member or regular contributor to the magazine; reliable, innovative and meeting or exceeding the evaluator’s expectation. Completing the criteria for award selection are the perceived value of the product to the purchaser and that the product is styled in a manner befitting the shooting and hunting industry, and its enthusiasts.
Mossberg stunned the industry with the introduction of the MC1sc pistol, the company’s first handgun in nearly a century. This full-featured 9mm concealed carry handgun was the result of three years of research and development, combining the highly-desired features of a subcompact with Mossberg’s innovative approach to design. Mossberg Announces 590 Pump-Action Shotgun Line Additions
O.F. Mossberg & Sons, Inc., a leading American firearms manufacturer, is announcing additions to its 590 Pump-Action product line. Additions include expanded capacities (6, 7 and 9-shot); flexibility of stock and pistol grip interchangeability; and the addition of 20 gauge and 410 bore chamberings in the 590 line-up, joining the venerable 12 gauge.
590 Tactical shotguns are based upon Mossberg’s proven 500 pump-action platform and include non-binding twin action bars; positive steel-to-steel lock-up and anti-jam elevator; dual extractors; drilled and tapped receivers; cylinder bores; and universally-recognized, ambidextrous top-mounted safety. Enhancing the decades-proven 500 platform is a convenient clean-out magazine tube with cap for ease of maintenance on all 590 shotguns.
Available models in the 590 Series include the 590 Persuader (full-length stock); 590 Cruiser (pistol-grip stock); 590 Persuader/Cruiser Kits; 590 Chainsaw with tri-rail forend; and 590 FLEX/Cruiser Kits. Select models are available in 20 gauge, 410 bore and with Compact stocks (shorter length-of-pull). Range Time with Mossberg’s Centennial Gift to the Shooting: The Company’s First Pistol in 100 Years
To celebrate their 100th year in business, Mossberg is releasing a new pistol, only their second in the company’s history.
Don’t feel bad if you are unfamiliar with the shotgun powerhouse’s first foray into handguns. The Mossberg Brownie was the company’s very first firearm – a four-barreled .22 caliber pistol marketed toward hunters and trappers – was only produced from 1919 to 1932, during which it sold for a mere $5.
The prodigal pistol producer’s latest handgun, dubbed the Mossberg Carry 1 Sub-Compact (MC1sc), is more on-point for one of the hottest market segments today: the sub-compact single stack 9mm carry gun. The GunLink team went hands-on with the MC1sc at SHOT Show 2019, including getting some trigger time with the new pistol during Industry Day at the Range the day before the show officially opened.
My first thought when Mossberg announced the new handgun was that they were late to an already crowded party. A party already attended by a pretty popular in-crowd, including the Glock 43, Smith & Wesson Shield, Springfield XDs, and the newer Sig Sauer P365. Stiff competition for a company with a sparse track record in the handgun arena. Good luck, Mossberg.

Mossberg Introduces New Shockwave Models for 2019
O.F. Mossberg & Sons, Inc., a leading American firearms manufacturer announced today the introduction of three (3) new 12-gauge 590 Shockwave variants for the 2019 model year. The new models include the 590 Nightstick, 590 Shock ‘N’ Saw and the 590 Shockwave SPX.
Built on Mossberg’s proven pump-action design, each 590 Shockwave features an overall length of 26.37 inches; 14-inch heavy-walled barrel; non-binding twin action bars; positive steel-to-steel lock-up; an anti-jam elevator; dual extractors; and an ambidextrous top-mounted safety. 590 Shockwaves also feature convenient magazine clean-out cap; drilled and tapped anodized aluminum receiver; cylinder bore barrel with a single brass bead sight; and sling swivel studs. Unique to the 590 Shockwave models are a “bird’s head” shaped-profile grip that allows for greater control while lessening felt recoil.
The 590 Nightstick, a Talo Distributors exclusive, is a 6-shot, 12-gauge firearm with a 14-inch barrel; black anodized receiver; matte black barrel and magazine tube; and is equipped with a hardwood bird’s head grip and corncob forend. MSRP is $539, but retail prices should provide a welcome savings over buying a standard Shockwave and adding wood furniture from an outfit like Black Aces.
The 590 Shock ‘N’ Saw is another 6-shot, 12-gauge firearm with a 14-inch barrel featuring a breacher muzzle; black anodized receiver; matte black barrel and magazine tube; Shockwave Technologies Raptor polymer bird’s head grip; aluminum MLOK-equipped forend; and signature Mossberg chainsaw foregrip. MSRP is $560 for this model, which should be popular with shoot-from-the-hip Shockwave enthusiasts.
Rounding out the trio of new Shockwave models, the 590 Shockwave SPX is a 6-shot, 12-gauge firearm with a 14-inch barrel featuring a breacher muzzle; black anodized receiver; matte black barrel and magazine tube; Shockwave Technologies Raptor polymer bird’s head grip; heatshield; aluminum side saddle with 7 polymer shell-holder units, allowing for positioning of extra shells on either side of the receiver; and a top-mounted picatinny rail. This model is also offered at an MSRP of $560.
With an overall length of 26.37 inches, the BATFE (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) has classified the compact 590 Shockwave platform as a “Non-NFA Firearm,” requiring no tax stamp for transfers. It has been classified and is considered a “firearm” under the Gun Control Act of 1968 (“GCA”), but it is not a long gun under GCA, and therefore Federal Law requires the purchaser of a 590 Shockwave to be 21 years of age.

Mossberg Joins Gun Manufacturers Cutting Ties with Dicks Sporting Goods
Dick’s Sporting Goods is continuing their anti-gun procession and firearms manufacturers and Second Amendment advocates are noticing.
First, they came for America’s Rifle (when they decided to stop selling AR-15 style firearms). Then they came for good business sense (when they decided to destroy their bought-and-paid existing stock of such firearms). Then they came for the young adults (when they decided not to sell any firearms to legal purchasers between the ages of 18-20). Most recently, they are coming for the Second Amendment as a whole (by hiring a team of anti-gun lobbyists to push gun control in Washington).
Today, Mossberg – alongside Springfield Armory and Hi-Point Firearms – joined the ranks of companies abandoning their business relationship with the retailer. We’re happy to see those in the $51.4 billion-and-growing industry standing up against alleged industry-partners who are actively working to do them harm and hope to see more jumping on board. It is time to stick together and let businesses know that they won’t let businesses stab them in the back and run roughshod over their livelihoods, rights, hobbies, and passions. Just look at the backlash over the YETI fiasco.
While the other companies may be more well known firearms with the potential to draw Dick’s unwarranted ire, the decision by Mossberg – who is known for their shotguns and rifles that may be more palatable to the sporting goods chain’s delicate sensibilities – might hit Dick’s, and their Field & Stream subsidiary – a little harder in the pocketbook. Mossberg Terminates Relationship with Dick’s Sporting Goods
O.F. Mossberg & Sons, Inc., a leading American firearms manufacturer, announced today its decision
to discontinue selling products to Dick’s Sporting Goods, and its subsidiary, Field & Stream, in response to their hiring of gun control lobbyists in April 2018.
Effective immediately, O.F. Mossberg & Sons will not accept any future orders from Dick’s Sporting Goods or Field & Stream, and is in the process of evaluating current contractual agreements.
“It has come to our attention that Dick’s Sporting Goods recently hired lobbyists on Capitol Hill to promote additional gun control.” said Iver Mossberg, Chief Executive Officer of O.F. Mossberg & Sons. “Make no mistake, Mossberg is a staunch supporter of the U.S. Constitution and our Second Amendment rights, and we fully disagree with Dick’s Sporting Goods’ recent anti-Second Amendment actions.”

2018 SHOT Show Range Day Round Up
The GunLink team spent the day before the official opening of SHOT Show 2018 walking the grounds of the Boulder City Pistol and Rifle Club, where we were able to handle many new firearms from well known, big name manufacturers as well as new companies trying to get their name out there. While many companies had completely new weapons, it still seems that the firearm industry is leaning towards “high-end” modifications of existing platforms. Some of the offerings were fairly innovative, showcasing the fruits of lengthy R&D processes while others made small improvements on existing platforms to enhance the shooting experience.
Franklin Armory Reformation
Some of the biggest buzz at SHOT Show Industry Day at the Range surrounded Franklin Armory’s new Reformation line. Franklin kicked off the hubbub a couple of weeks ago with a mysterious press release boasting a new AR15 with an 11.5″ barrel and a Magpul SL stock. Big deal, right? We’ve all seen SBRs before. The catch was that Franklin Armory said that the Reformation was not a rifle (or a shotgun) and, despite the diminutive size coupled with a regular stock, is not subject to NFA regulations or taxes.
After picking our way through the crowd gathered around the Franklin shooting bay, we got some trigger time on the display model, outfitted with the short barrel, adjustable Magpul stock, Franklin’s BFSIII binary trigger, and magazines loaded with standard 5.56 ammo. Taken together, this blew many of the theories about how it escaped NFA purview, but the company reps wouldn’t give out any more details until tomorrow’s press conference at their booth on the show floor.
Mag-Fed Shotguns – Mossberg 590M and Remington 870DM
Mossberg’s domestic competitor, Remington, may have beaten Mossberg to the punch with last month’s announcement of the 870DM, an update to their popular pump-action shotgun to feed from a detachable magazine, but we think that Mossberg came out on top in the execution department with their new 590DM. Full disclosure, we are Mossberg fans out of the gate, preferring the 500 platform over the 870 in most regards.
Remington’s edge came with the announcement of a wider variety of models of the 870DM, including a Magpul equipped, camo thumb-hole, hardwood, tactical, and stubby non-NFA TAC-14 models that will accept Remington’s in-house built single-stack magazines in 3- and 6-round capacities.
