Extended NICS Hours for Black Friday

Worried about long waits at the gun counter when snapping up those smoking Black Friday deals?  This recent announcement may help to ease your mind.

The FBI NICS Section has announced extended hours of service on Friday, Nov. 29, 2013 (“Black Friday”), for E-check Users and state Point-of-Contact (POC) Programs.  Typically, the NICS is available daily from 8 a.m. until 1 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST).  However, in response to requests to bring NICS into service earlier on “Black Friday” to better accommodate typical business-hour extensions throughout the retail industry and due to a long history of record-breaking volume on this day, the FBI will bring the NICS in-service starting at 4:30 a.m. EST for NICS E-check Users and for state POC Programs.  The NICS Contracted Call Centers will open, as normal, at 8 a.m. EST.

For those Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs) that do not currently utilize the NICS E-check service and would like to do so prior to NICS Peak Season 2013 or in advance of the earlier-than-normal NICS service hours being provided on “Black Friday,” contact the following for that expeditious, automated firearms background check service: 1-877-324-6427.  Select Option 2 for FFL Customer Service and then option 5 for E-Check enrollment. NSSF Drops Reed Exhibitions as Managers of SHOT Show

NSSF MemberYou probably remember the blowup causing vendors to leave en mass from the Harrisburg, PA, Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show and the subsequent change in management to NRA managing the new Harrisburg show.  You probably also remember the outcry over the continued management by Reed of the NSSF SHOT Show.  The big news of the day is that NSSF has now terminated their agreement and the SHOT Show will be under new management going forward.

Announced via the SHOT Show Blog:

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms industry, today announced that it has reached an agreement with Reed Exhibitions to terminate the agreement the parties had for the management of the SHOT Show. Accordingly, effective immediately, Reed Exhibitions will no longer be manager and producer of the SHOT Show.

Reed Exhibitions provided excellent service to NSSF and the customers of the SHOT Show for more than three decades, however, the company’s decision to restrict the sale of certain types of firearms this year at its consumer hunting and fishing show — an event unrelated to NSSF and the SHOT Show — was in conflict with NSSF’s mission to serve the shooting sports industry. As a result, both organizations decided it was in the best interest of the SHOT Show to end their relationship.

NSSF is actively engaged in the process of identifying a new show management company to manage and produce the SHOT Show beginning with the 2014 SHOT Show.

The SHOT Show — the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show — is owned and sponsored by NSSF. It is the largest and most comprehensive trade show for all professionals involved with the shooting sports, hunting and law enforcement industries. The 2014 SHOT Show will be held Jan. 14-17 at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas.

Discuss the change in the NSSF SHOT Show board on the GunLink Forums.

Knob Creek Spring 2013 Machine Gun Shoot Photos

Another great turnout at the spring 2013 Machine Gun Shoot at Knob Creek Gun Range in West Point, KY last weekend.  “Panic buying” still being in full swing and consumers willing to pay top dollar for guns and ammo kept prices high, so there weren’t too many great deals to be found, but it was still a lot of fun.

Here are the first batch of photos from the shoot.  We will also be posting these photos, along with others, in the event thread on the GunLink Forums. Continue reading
